How to Choose Strip Heels? 4 Rules

Articles
In the previous part, we looked at what platforms are, how they differ from each other, and who they are suitable for. Now let’s talk about styles: how do you choose the most comfortable and practical option?

No. 1 — Fasteners on strip heels

Models that use an ankle cuff clasp instead of an ankle strap look very elegant, but keep in mind that this type of fastener is better suited for experienced dancers because it allows more freedom of movement.
It is better to avoid slide-style strip heels, as they can slip off the foot.
The most reliable fasteners that hold the foot firmly are classic straps.

Models: Piano, Beige, Danger, Swan. Classic. Nude

An improved option is a cross strap sewn into the platform, or an extended strap that passes under the platform. These options provide better fixation when lifting the foot.

The extended strap fits more closely, while a strap sewn into the platform may turn out to be non-adjustable.
Also pay attention to how the fastener is attached. If it is attached with flimsy elastic, it will soon stretch out and stop securing the foot properly. It is better to choose attachments made with high-quality, durable elastic. The ideal option is a leather attachment, which does not stretch like elastic.

No. 2 — Type of strip heel upper

The most comfortable and safe option for the strip heel upper.
Thin straps often break and can also cause the toes to slide.
Elastic uppers stretch a lot and do not provide the necessary firmness of fixation.
The “spider” model also uses thin straps, but they are placed very close together, intertwined, and hold the shape of the last.
This vamp construction does not break or stretch, and it supports the foot firmly.
The best foot fixation is undoubtedly provided by strip boots, where the ankle is held securely and the upper does not stretch over time.

No. 3 — Foot width

  • If you have a wide foot, almost any strip heel model will work, except those with a narrow toe opening, as they may rub your toes at the seam.

  • If you have prominent bunions (wide toe joints), be sure to choose models where the vamp ends above them and fully covers them so your toes do not slip out.

  • If you have a narrow foot, pay attention to boots, silicone strip heels, and models with a narrower toe opening and additional fixing straps. Models: obsidian, fly and shy

No. 4 — Toe type

There are two types of toes: open and closed.

A closed toe is often found in strip ankle boots, boots, and over-the-knee boots, and less often in sandals. It protects the toes from injuries but wears out faster. The tips and toes are the parts of strip heels most prone to wear, and there are special protectors for this (we will tell you about them next time).
Models: Alligator, Bagira, Snake

An open toe can have different opening widths:
- wide, showing all 5 toes (usually a straight vamp in the form of a wide band);
- standard, for 3.5 toes;
- narrow, for 2.5 toes. Models: Dark, Leopard
- very narrow opening, 1.5 toes. Models: Gloss, Latte, Cappuccino, Velvet

If you have a narrow foot, choose a narrower opening. If your foot is medium-width or wide, a standard or narrower opening will work.
We do not recommend choosing a wide opening, because strip heels already tend to stretch, and your foot will slide forward without proper fixation.
We hope that after this explanation, it will be easier for you to make your choice!
